St Leonard’s Road was once the only road through a rural Poplar - called Bow Lane and before that Poplar Lane.
St Leonard’s Road, and its northern extension Uamvar Street, led south from Bromley-by-Bow’s parish church - St Mary with St Leonard.
The area urbanised after the North London Railway opened in 1850.
