St Paul’s from the south west in 1896
Originally called Amen Lane, this short path forms the approach road to Amen Court.

John Stow records it as ’a short lane which runneth west some short distance, and is there closed up with a gate into a great house’. This great house was he College of Physicians. Founded in 1518 by Thomas Linacre, the College moved from his own house in Knightrider Street to the site of Amen Corner in about 1540.
