This will be my next video walking into London from the Upminster direction.
When I asked for suggestions, I was told that this route was good:
North up Station Lane. The builders who developed so much of the area between the wars built a half-size house as a kind of ‘showpiece’ and the taxi office moved in.
Turn left into the High Street. (though if you turn right for a tad, St Andrew’s Church has Bull’s Head – maybe a 13th century Mithras Roman Goddess and the origin of the name Hornchurch)
Back having turned left onto the High Street is a Wimpy bar
Go beyond Billets Lane to the Öncü Food Centre. On Hornchurch Road (a Roman road) at this point, was a Roman settlement.
Retrace to Billets Lane and up to Langtons Gardens. Langtons house gardens was laid out by Humfrey Repton.
You can exit on the far side of Langstons Gardens via a path onto Boscombe Avenue.
Turn left and find the entrance to Grey Towers Gardens (a road). If possible try to find a path through the allotments along the River Ravensbourne back to Hornchurch Road.
Cross Hornchurh Road into Harrow Lodge Park and follow the- Ravensbourne (a tributary of the Rom)
Find where the river becomes a lake and there’s a car park at the point. Leave Harrow Lodge Park here.
Find Warren Drive and turn left.
Turn right into Benhurst Avenue. There are a few ‘banjos’ to explore and explain! These are unique to Dagenham.
At Maple Close (to the right) there’s a green route to the left. Take it and then right into Elm Park Avenue.
To the Roundabout and left into The Broadway and Elm Park station.
Please feel free to comment to guide my proposed walk!
This is not my video (yet) but here is John Rogers walking around the same area
