There are two sides to South Acton. Often overshadowed by nearby Ealing, the west side of the London Overground line offers more affordable property options. First-time buyers are drawn to its abundance of Victorian houses and conversions. The east side of the railway line is more generally known as Acton Green and has its own character though the name can be flexible nearer to Chiswick Park station.
The South Acton housing estate, owned by Ealing Council, dominates the area. This public housing complex comprises roughly 2000 dwellings spread across 25 hectares, primarily in medium to high-rise blocks.
South Acton station opened on 1 January 1880, operated by the North and South Junction Railway. It served North London Line trains on the London Broad Street to Richmond route. Until 1971, a connecting branch line ran to Hammersmith. Another branch, operating from 13 June 1905 to 2 March 1959, linked South Acton to Acton Town via District Railway service.
