Stapleton Road was built in the third wave of Borehamwood development.
The area between Green Street/Cowley Hill is hillier than most parts of Borehamwood. While this area was planned alongside the rest of the estate, Stapleton Road and its surrounding streets remained farmland until later.
Campions School was situated at the Aycliffe Road junction and the road follows the contour of a hill which is why it bends as it does towards Green Street.
The Green Street end was a little more commercial in the earlier days - it was a small village in its own right - until the new roads were built. Once Green Street was attached to Borehamwood by development, its lost its shops and pubs.
