Villa Street has been in existence since the turn of the nineteenth century.
Villa Street lies between Old Kent Road and Walworth Road and was laid out in the decade between 1800 and 1810. It was originally John Street and afterwards Burdett Street.
Many of the houses on Villa Street were built by Edward Yates during the 1870s. Yates was a prolific builder in Walworth and Nunhead and financed each stage of his developments from the income of the previous stage.
The Yates houses were demolished for the building of the Aylesbury Estate.
