Church Path was the forerunner to Church Avenue.
Church Path ran from St Mary’s church to the Upper Richmond Road. The northern section is still a path but the southern section is now Church Avenue.
This is a plaque on a wall near the church which says" ‘This path forms part of an old track from the village of Sheen to Mortlake church. It was used for walking funerals until the 19th when the railway cut across it.
The Underground Map project is creating street histories for the areas of London and surrounding counties lying within the M25.
The aim of the project is to find the location every street in London, whether past or present, and tell its story. This project aims to be a service to historians, genealogists and those with an interest in urban design.
