Southwood Road, SE9 (1920s)

New Eltham grew up as a suburb of farmland to the south of Eltham in and around the small hamlet and crossroads of Pope Street.

Southwood Road started life in the 1890s. Note the tile-hung decoration to bay window and the ornamental brick pediment over the front door, features that embelished the medium to large semi-detached houses built at this time.
