The scene at the unsuccessful launch of the SS Great Eastern on the Isle of Dogs (1858)

SS Great Eastern was an iron sailing steamship designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and built by J. Scott Russell & Co. at Millwall Iron Works.

Two people were killed in the difficult sideways-launch of the Great Eastern, and the ship became known to some as an unlucky ship.
