Religious procession along Wrythe Lane (1919)

Wrythe Lane, an ancient lane, was originally the most direct route from Carshalton to Morden. Until the twentieth century, it was a wide country lane and lined by hedges.

Until the late 19th century, Wrythe Lane had been known as Spartelmy Lane or Sparkelmy Green Lane. Wrythe Green itself was called Sparkman's Green.
