Woodgrange Avenue dates from 1910.

As the Victorian era drew to a close, North Finchley was rapidly developing as a suburb.

In 1905 the Metropolitan Electric Tramways opened a tramline between Highgate and Whetstone and this was crossed by another from New Southgate to Golders Green from 1909. To facilitate this a tramway depot was opened in Woodberry Grove. Trams combined with motorbus services promoted the development of the retail district.

Woodhouse Road and Summers Lane were the main east-west roads between Finchley and Friern Barnet. Between the two was largely undeveloped but in 1909, a strip of land between the two was sold. Woodgrange Avenue was built on this land soon afterwards.

The area of Fallow Corner and of Cobley’s Farm was first recorded in 1429. By the 18th century there was a small hamlet of houses and the access roads from these to the main road formed the distinct Bow Lane. The route of the road was originally part of a lengthy track leading across from Muswell Hill through Coldfall Wood to the northern portion of Church End. Bow Lane, which was named for its shape, was constructed in 1814 after the enclosure of Finchley Common.
