It was opened on 23 October 1926 in Southfields. At a cost of £6223, the construction of the mosque and the purchase of the land on which it stands, was financed by the donations of Ahmadi Muslim women in Qadian, Punjab, British India, with support from the British Muslim convert Khalid Sheldrake. It is owned by the Dean and Chapter of St Paul’s Cathedral, acting through the Church Commissioners and managed by the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.
