Tennyson moved to Chapel House, Twickenham in 1840. In 1850, Tennyson reached the pinnacle of his career, publishing his masterpiece, "In Memoriam A.H.H.". Later the same year, he was appointed Poet Laureate, succeeding William Wordsworth. Tennyson moved to the Isle of Wight in 1853 and on to West Sussex in 1869.
