Buckingham Avenue was originally a private road being made up in 1933.

In 1938 it was reported that the developer wanted to name the flats at the junction with the Great North Road ‘Buckingham Court’ but the Council insisted that the name must be ‘Villiers Court’.

At its start in 1927, there were three houses on the north side and three on the south.
