Finchley Golf Club was founded by a group of keen golfers who persuaded Finchley Council to purchase land for a new course.
Finchley Golf Club clubhouse was built by a Victorian businessman, Henry Thomas Tubbs, as a home named Nether Court between 1880 and 1883. It was described as ’the largest Victorian house built in Hendon Parish’.
Tubbs lived in Nether Court until his death in December 1917, after which it lay empty for several years despite two new owners. It was eventually purchased in 1929 to become the Finchley Golf Clubhouse.
The Underground Map project is creating street histories for the areas of London and surrounding counties lying within the M25.
The aim of the project is to find the location every street in London, whether past or present, and tell its story. This project aims to be a service to historians, genealogists and those with an interest in urban design.
The website features a series of maps from the 1750s until the 1950s. You can see how London grows over the decades. |
