Priory Close replaced older terraces near Nelson Grove Road.
Much of this estate dates from the early 1950s and was built to replace run-down housing in Pincott Road and similar areas.
Many of the new blocks were known as ’closes’ and reflect much of the district’s earlier history in its street names. Priory Close refers to Merton Priory, a religious institution which once occupied much of the surrounding area.
