Roy Mathieson Southwark Added: 27 Jun 2024 16:25 GMT	St Saviours My great grandmother was born in Bowling Green Lane in 1848. The family moved from there to Earl Terrace, Bermondsey in 1849. I have never been able to locate Earl Terrace on maps. Reply
Buckhurst Street, E1 Added: 26 Jun 2024 13:10 GMT	Buckhurst Street, E1 Mt grandfather, Thomas Walton Ward had a musical instrument workshop in Buckhurst Street from 1934 until the street was bombed during the war. Grandfather was a partner in the musical instrument firm of R.J. Ward and Sons of Liverpool. He died in 1945 and is buried in a common grave at Abney Park Cemetery. Reply

Evie Helen Erith Added: 13 Jun 2024 00:03 GMT	Vickers Road The road ’Vickers Road’ is numbered rather differently to other roads in the area as it was originally built as housing for the "Vickers" arms factory in the late 1800’s and early 1900s. Most of the houses still retain the original 19th century tiling and drainage outside of the front doors. Reply

Mr L.P. Keene had earlier set up his works in a yard behind the Stores in Bath Road. He claimed it was the best repairing works in London with accommodation for 250 cars. He developed a fourteen-horsepower steam car called the ’Keenelet’, but it did not catch on and the company failed in 1904. In 1906 the firm of H.J. Mulliner, coachbuilders, took over the premises, which by then included workshops and offices in the three-storey Stores building. Mulliners made high-quality coachwork for firms such as Rolls-Royce and Bentley. It merged with Park Ward and moved to Willesden in 1961. A large red-brick office block, appropriately named Mulliner House, now occupies the site of the automobile works. Gothick Cottage (early twentieth century) This house - considered one of the most beautiful in the area and a landmark on the Goldhawk Road - was, for many years, the home of a Mr Murcott, a gunsmith. It was demolished in 1958 and eventually replaced by a Shell filling station. According to descendant Hilary Tilmouth, the people you can see in the garden are Catherine Murcott, twins Annie and Kitty, along with Willy and Lionel Mutcott.
