Buckhurst Street, E1 Added: 26 Jun 2024 13:10 GMT	Buckhurst Street, E1 Mt grandfather, Thomas Walton Ward had a musical instrument workshop in Buckhurst Street from 1934 until the street was bombed during the war. Grandfather was a partner in the musical instrument firm of R.J. Ward and Sons of Liverpool. He died in 1945 and is buried in a common grave at Abney Park Cemetery. Reply

Roehampton was originally a small village – with only 14 houses during the reign of Henry VII – with the area largely forest and heath. The population gradually increased in the 18th and 19th centuries as it became a favoured residential outlying suburb for summer villas and larger houses set in parkland, following the opening of Putney Bridge in 1729. The crossroads of Rocks Lane/Mill Hill Road, Barnes Common. Old London postcard TUM image id: 1635876350 Licence:	Station Road, Barnes (c.1920) Barnes station was opened quite some distance from Barnes itself. The station was opened on 27 July 1846, when the line to Richmond was built. Grade II listed, it was designed by the architect John Thomas Emmett and is the only survivor of four brick-built Tudor Gothic-style stations on the Richmond branch. It is not the station we are looking at here but the Methodist Church at the other end of the road.
