A brand new black taxi cab waiting for a fare on a London street (1933) Credit: General Photographic Agency TUM image id: 1630401495 Licence:	The motorisation of London taxis began in the early 20th century. This can be seen here with this motor hansom cab on a standard 1905 Vauxhall chassis, but with the controls changed over so the driver can operate them from the rear and aloft. If the date of the photo is correct, people were preparing rather early. There do not appear to be any blackout deflectors on the headlamps so presumably before 1939 - certainly before 1941 when Wood Green would have been subsumed into the National Fire Service. After the war, Wood Green became part of the Middlesex Fire Service and then part of the London Fire Brigade under the Greater London Council in 1965 when the borough became part of the London Borough of Haringey. In the background can be seen the railway buildings on the Kings Cross main line to the north, an area of later interest to Nazi bombers during the Blitz. View of London from Hillfield Park, Muswell Hill Credit: IG/zdenka.ldn TUM image id: 1684491886 Licence:	Tottenham Lane Tottenham Lane dates from the 18th century or before and is a shopping street with three-storey terraces of red brick. The street runs from the centre of Crouch End at the clock tower, north to the junction of the High Street and Turnpike Lane. The narrowness of Tottenham Lane, the height of the buildings and continuous frontage gives it considerable sense of enclosure. John Rogers theorises in one of his videos that the architect was used to designing seaside promenades the same building styles of which were employed here too with a different effect. Credit: London Borough of Haringey TUM image id: 1595432630 Licence:	Green Man, Muswell Hill The Green Man Public House was built on the site of a medieval alehouse mentioned in records of 1552. These historical associations, and the continuous use of the site as a hostelry, have resulted in it becoming a local landmark. The photograph shows a late 17th or early 18th Century low two storey brick building with a plain clay tiled roof and three brick stringcourse that had been ‘modernised’ by the introduction of sash windows and a canted bay window through both floors on which the pub signs have been mounted.
