Mowlem Street began in the first decade of the nineteenth century.
John Scott, an Islington brickmaker, from 1808, built a new road running north from Russia Lane called West Street.
Later it came also became called Potter’s Row after Thomas Potter, his sublessee.
The new road run beside a large pond which disappeared early in the nineteenth century.
Potter’s Row/West Street became Mowlem Street in 1884.
