The Courtyard is a theatre housed in the former Passmore Edwards Free Library.
The Courtyard has both a 150-seat main house and an 80-seat studio theatre and is Grade II listed.
The Passmore Edwards Free Library was opened in 1897. This magnificent library was one of over 70 major buildings across the country - including hospitals, libraries, schools and art galleries - that philanthropist John Passmore Edwards helped to fund. The building became redundant when Hackney Council opened a new central library in Hoxton Street.
