Churchill Avenue was named after its landowner, Captain Spencer-Churchill.
Captain Spencer-Churchill and he intended to develop a high-class estate: Northwick Park. Three roads of the estate were built before 1914, but with no houses. Development eventully took place in the 1920s.
During the First World War anti-aircraft positions were set up in Churchill Avenue.
