In 1881, the census records that Brackenbury Gardens (before 1938 called Augustus Road) included a solicitor, a bootmaker, a clerk, a commercial clerk, a draper, a house agent, a jeweller, a student of the Royal College of Music, zinc worker, a plumber’s assistant, an agent to a foreign government, a bedding manufacturer, a music teacher, a mattress maker, pianoforte maker and a civil engineer.
