Red Lion Yard was renamed to Cavendish Buildings in 1882.
Cavendish Buildings was indirectly named after Lady Henrietta Cavendish, the heiress to the Manor of Marylebone.
By the 1870s, there was a local pub - the Red Lion (rebuilt in 1879). The cul-de-sac Red Lion Yard - replaced by the construction of the House of Fraser in 1879 - led away from this and was later known as Cavendish Buildings.
