Aland Road was named after the Åland archipelago in the Baltic.
At Åland in 1855, as part of the Crimean War, the British fleet destroyed the Russian fortress of Bomarsund. In Talacre Road, with the site converted into flats, there was an Admiral Napier pub.
Post-war, part of the street disappeared under a post-war housing estate and further parts had already became both Talacre Road and Weedington Road - the renaming before the turn of the twentieth century.
